A one week pre-trip prior to our two week Raja Ampat live aboard cruise will truly make for an experience of a lifetime. Ambon is famous for world class muck diving, with a huge array of critters that can be observed and photographed during long dives at the shallow sites close to the resort. Diving in Ambon includes regular sightings of resident marine life such as rhinopias, many assorted frogfish, mandarin fish, ghost pipefish, harlequin shrimp, flamboyant cuttlefish, blue ring and hairy octopus, thorny and pygmy seahorse, stonefish, inimicus, to name but a few, along with literally hundreds of different species of nudibranch. As the Maluku Divers Resort is the only dedicated dive resort within Ambon Bay, it is “Critters Without Crowds” when diving in Ambon.

The trip schedule has been arranged as an add on prior to the Raja Ampat cruise, and to facilitate travel from the US west coast starting Friday night and returning three weeks later on Sunday, and straddling the Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Holidays, giving some of you some extra days off without using vacation time.

Maluku Divers evolved in the summer of 2009, with a brand new purpose built dive resort in Ambon. Set amongst mature trees in a beautiful 9,800 metre private beachfront plot in the village of Laha just 5 minutes from the airport, we've built 10 individual bungalows, supported by on site restaurant, dive shop, large camera room and great dive facilities. The bungalows are fully equipped with hot water private bathrooms and air conditioning. Inside each bungalow, along with our trademark enormous comfy beds, we have added individual editing desks, with charging stations with multiple sockets for our divers. There is also a large relaxing open air wooden terrace at the front of each bungalow offering uninterrupted views to the ocean and our house critter dive. The beachside restaurant complex has a large communal camera room, a pretty beach side patio and a lounge area to relax after an intriguing day diving. As we're now located within Ambon bay, we can offer numerous shore diving opportunities at the resort at multiple critter sites directly on the shoreline, as well as boat dives to the other sites in and around Ambon. We’re also just a few minutes transfer from the airport.

Getting There

Don’t book flights without first consulting the trip leader. Most likely you will book a round trip to Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, or maybe even Makassar in Indonesia. From those you’ll book on a domestic carrier to get to Ambon (AMQ.) The Monday November 9 arrival is arranged to make it possible to leave the west coast at about midnight Friday night and arrive into Jakarta or other Indonesian city by Sunday afternoon or evening.  Overnight or early Monday morning domestic flights will take you the rest of the way to Ambon. Direct domestic flights are preferred instead of connecting, so your choice of international arrival port may be dictated by the most optimal last leg of travel. The resort has much experience with domestic travel and can assist in booking those flights.

The week stay at Ambon will end on Monday November 16 when we will fly on to Sorong to begin our Raja Ampat Cruise.

Rainbow Divers is a 501(c)7 non-profit mutual benefit organization, and can only organize activities and trips for its members. Membership is cheap and comes with a bunch of new lifelong friends at no extra charge. So if you’d like to participate in this trip, please join us.

Payment plan

  • $400 at time of registration
  • $300 due July 2014
  • $300 due January 2015
  • $500 (or balance if single) due April 2015
Your final payment will be adjusted if a single is available. If you do not request a single but are assigned to a single (due to odd numbers or cancellations) you will not be charged the extra fee. This gives us maximum flexibility to accommodate couples, singles, and a mix of male and female guests.

Payments are generally non-refundable. If you sign up and your plans change there may or may not be someone interested in taking your spot. If you cancel without having made all payments it is your responsibility to find someone to pay your obligation in full. It is a very good idea to carry trip insurance to cover such an eventuality.

Trip payments may be made by PayPal or by personal check. PayPal will accept credit card payments, regardless of whether you have a PayPal account. The price is the same regardless of payment method.  Please consider using PayPal, as electronic payment greatly simplifies the work of our volunteers.  Please send PayPal payments to paypal@rainbowdivers.org

All divers on this trip should be comfortable diving in currents and have good buoyancy skills.  Divers are required to carry valid, in-force dive accident insurance, such as may be obtained from Divers' Alert Network (DAN).

Divers must agree to NCRD's Event Terms and Conditions to participate in this trip.

If you wish to pay by check, please make payable to NCRD and send to:
