A one week pre-trip prior to our two week Raja Ampat live aboard cruise will truly make for an experience of a lifetime. Ambon is famous for world class muck diving, with a huge array of critters that can be observed and photographed during long dives at the shallow sites close to the resort. Diving in Ambon includes regular sightings of resident marine life such as rhinopias, many assorted frogfish, mandarin fish, ghost pipefish, harlequin shrimp, flamboyant cuttlefish, blue ring and hairy octopus, thorny and pygmy seahorse, stonefish, inimicus, to name but a few, along with literally hundreds of different species of nudibranch. As the Maluku Divers Resort is the only dedicated dive resort within Ambon Bay, it is “Critters Without Crowds” when diving in Ambon.
The trip schedule has been arranged as an add on prior to the Raja Ampat cruise, and to facilitate travel from the US west coast starting Friday night and returning three weeks later on Sunday, and straddling the Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Holidays, giving some of you some extra days off without using vacation time.

Getting There
Don’t book flights without first consulting the trip leader. Most likely you will book a round trip to Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, or maybe even Makassar in Indonesia. From those you’ll book on a domestic carrier to get to Ambon (AMQ.) The Monday November 9 arrival is arranged to make it possible to leave the west coast at about midnight Friday night and arrive into Jakarta or other Indonesian city by Sunday afternoon or evening. Overnight or early Monday morning domestic flights will take you the rest of the way to Ambon. Direct domestic flights are preferred instead of connecting, so your choice of international arrival port may be dictated by the most optimal last leg of travel. The resort has much experience with domestic travel and can assist in booking those flights.
The week stay at Ambon will end on Monday November 16 when we will fly on to Sorong to begin our Raja Ampat Cruise.
